Dr. Olsen was raised in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated from High School. He then attended York Junior College in York, Nebraska and Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where he received scholarships for basketball. In 1970, Dr. Olsen was accepted to Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee where he studied primary vision care for four years. In 1974 he received his Doctorate of Optometry. For the next two years he served as the first ever-chief optometrist in the US Army with the 101st Airborne Division.
Dr. Olsen and his family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma and set up his family vision care practice in August of 1976. His emphasis was in contact lenses, eye health, refractive laser procedures, and optical services. Dr. Olsen has been a member of the American Optometric Association, which is a non-profit organization, comprised of over 22,000 optometric physicians across the country, for more than 30 years. He has also been a member of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians for more than 30 years, where he has served as a district representative and state membership chairman.
Dr. Olsen is involved in the Infant See Program, has been chosen as a contact lens consultant for Johnson and Johnson, and has spoken to colleagues about the new innovations in contact lenses. For the past 5 years he has been a volunteer eye doctor for the Cross and Crown Mission in Oklahoma City, providing free vision care to less fortunate people. Dr. Olsen specializes in contact lenses including specialty fittings of multi-focal and astigmatic soft contact lenses. He also diagnoses and treats dry eye, allergy eye, glaucoma patients, and promotes eye health prevention of conditions such as macular degeneration. Dr. Olsen co-manages cataract patients and refractive laser treatment with local ophthalmologists. He was one of the leaders of the first laser center in OKC.
Dr. Olsen has always espoused his Christian values by emphasizing the “golden rule” philosophy. He provides the necessary time to not only diagnose and treat, but to also thoroughly explain visual conditions to each of his patients. His office provides a warm and friendly atmosphere with a professional staff that shares his philosophy of patient care.
Dr. Olsen regularly attends optometric meetings, conferences, educational courses, and seminars each year in order to provide the newest treatment and technology to best serve his patients.
